Brother PE900 Embroidery Machine

The Brother PE900 is an embroidery-only machine positioned as the step-up from the PE800. It shares the same 5” x 7” embroidery field but adds wireless LAN connectivity for design transfer, an expanded built-in design library (193 designs vs 138 on the PE800), and a larger 5-inch LCD touchscreen that improves design editing workflow.

What it is

The PE900 is a dedicated embroidery machine: it does not sew regular seams. It stitches pre-programmed designs onto fabric by moving the hoop under a fixed needle, producing precise embroidery that matches the loaded design.

Specs:

  • 5” x 7” embroidery area
  • 193 built-in designs
  • 12 built-in lettering fonts
  • 5” LCD color touchscreen
  • Wireless LAN for design transfer
  • USB port for design import
  • Automatic needle threader
  • Maximum embroidery speed: 400 stitches per minute

Who it’s for

Embroiderers who know they want the 5” x 7” field and wireless workflow. If you’ve already decided that the PE800’s 5” x 7” embroidery area is what you need, and you want wireless design transfer rather than USB-only, the PE900 offers a streamlined workflow improvement.

Higher-volume hobbyists who switch between designs frequently. The larger screen makes design selection and positioning faster. For sewists who run many different designs in a session, the improved interface reduces time spent on setup.

The embroidery area is identical. The PE900’s additions: wireless connectivity, more designs, larger screen: are workflow improvements rather than functional capability differences. For most beginners, the PE800’s lower price buys the same core capability. The PE900 makes sense for embroiderers who specifically want wireless transfer convenience or the larger screen.

What it does well

  • Wireless LAN design transfer eliminates USB cable management
  • 5” touchscreen provides clearer design preview and editing
  • 193 built-in designs provide more out-of-box capability
  • Same reliable stitch quality as the PE800

Limitations

Embroidery-only. The PE900 does not sew regular seams. If you need standard sewing alongside embroidery, see the Brother SE600 combination machine.

5” x 7” maximum design size. If you plan to embroider large jacket backs, tablecloths, or pieces larger than 5” x 7”, you’ll need a machine with a larger hoop area.

Verdict

The PE900 is the right choice over the PE800 if wireless design transfer matters to your workflow or if the larger screen is important to you. For beginners who aren’t sure about those factors, the PE800 represents the same embroidery capability at lower cost.
